FAQ

What is Heatray?

Heatray is a range of energy-efficient electric and gas-fired (NG/LPG) radiant heating products by Celmec, Australia’s trusted climate control specialists. Heatray products are engineered to deliver the warmth you want, indoors and outdoors undercover, with advanced technology, flexible installation options, and streamlined design.

What is radiant heat?

Heatray products use radiant energy, which heats people and objects directly. The feel of radiant heat is similar to heat from the sun. It’s an evenly distributed, soft warmth absorbed by all exposed surfaces – but without the dangers of ultraviolet exposure.

What’s the difference between radiant and warm air heating?

Radiant heating directly transfers energy to warm people, making it the most efficient form of energy use. This leads to a cleaner environment, less waste, and lower running costs.

Unlike conventional systems that blow warm air, which can cause uncomfortable draughts and rise away from where it’s needed, radiant heat stays focused and effective. We believe it’s the most practical solution for heating highly ventilated and outdoor spaces.

What kind of Heatray products are there?

The Heatray range includes low, medium, and high-intensity heating solutions. These can be seamlessly integrated with both new and existing structures, making them suitable for indoor and outdoor spaces.

Heatray heaters are designed to suit a variety of specific applications:

Low-intensity, non-glowing heaters: Ideal for close-proximity mounting in well-protected areas from cold draughts.

Medium-intensity, low-glare heaters: Suitable for medium-mounting heights and reasonably well-protected areas.

High-intensity, glowing heaters: Best for medium to high-mounting heights in poorly protected areas.

Which type and model should I choose?

Choosing the right heater depends on several factors, including exposure to cold draughts, indoor or outdoor installation, ceiling or roof height, level of activity, access to electricity or gas supply, and power availability.

You should also consider whether your preference for glowing or non-glowing radiant heat suits your application best.

For more information, we recommend referring to the comparison table on each product page or downloading our product brochures.

Should I choose electric or gas?

Heatray’s product range offers both electric and gas options:

Electric radiant heaters: Suitable for any fully protected indoor or outdoor environment, electric heaters produce no CO2 emissions. Before installation, it's essential to confirm that you will have a sufficient power supply.

Gas radiant heaters: Generally of higher capacity than electric heaters, gas options are designed for larger spaces and higher installations. Gas-fired radiant heaters are suitable only for highly ventilated or outdoor spaces; otherwise, they must be flued to the outside. An adequate gas supply (NG or LPG) is also required.

What are the mounting options?

Heatray products come in various designs, sizes, capacities, and mounting options, so there’s bound to be a solution to suit your space.

Mounting options: these include surface or recessed ceiling mounting, wall mounting, roof suspension, and portable units. Remember, these are all subject to minimum clearances from flammable materials.

Heated umbrellas: our commercial-grade structural umbrella systems are designed to accommodate specific Heatray heaters.

Can I install Heatray products myself?

Most Heatray electric heaters are supplied with a 1.8m power cord and a 3-pin plug. You’ll need a power point, which a licensed electrician must install.

For multiple heaters, a licensed electrician must install and hardwire separate power points.

For gas units, a licensed electrician and a licensed gas fitter are required to complete the installation.

Care & Maintenance

At Celmec, we’re committed to creating products that stand the test of time. With proper care and maintenance, your Heatray heater will continue to perform at its best.   We use robust, non-corrosive materials that withstand harsh conditions and high temperatures, and we ensure every heater meets high commercial standards and delivers outstanding performance.   Please note that careless handling, negligence or misuse may result in damage, which is not covered by our warranty.
How often should I clean my heater?

To maintain your heater’s appearance, efficiency, and longevity—as well as your warranty—your heater should be regularly cleaned. How often depends on the heater’s exposure to climatic conditions and airborne pollutants such as dust, fumes or sea air.

If your heater is exposed to harsh conditions such as sea air, it may need to be cleaned as frequently as every week to prevent corrosive salt or damaging grime build-up.

How often should I inspect my heater?

We recommend inspecting and cleaning your heater at least every three months. In harsher conditions, such as close proximity to sea air, inspections should be more frequent—up to weekly.

During these inspections, check for any build-up of dust, insects, pollutants or salt deposits. If you notice any of these, please follow our cleaning recommendations.

Additional inspections should be performed immediately after an unusual or exceptional event
such as:
-        storm with winds over 60km/h (35mph)
-        impact that may have caused damage
-        vandalism that may have caused damage
-        lighting strikes or earthquakes

How do I clean my heater?

First, ensure your heater is turned off and at room temperature.
Begin by brushing off any dust, insects, pollutants or salt deposits.

Use a wet sponge to remove excessive build-up.
If left unchecked, this build-up can be an abrasive and damage the protective outer layers, leading to surface stains.

Gently clean the heater using a soft cloth or sponge, warm water, and mild detergent.
Do not use abrasive cleaners, scrubbing brushes, or high-pressure water, as these can damage the heater. You can also use a wet sponge to remove any significant grime build-up between regular cleanings.

Finish by wiping with a wet sponge to remove any remaining detergent.
After cleaning, turn the heating system on to dry it and prevent steam formation later.

Preventative maintenance

We recommend an annual service before the start of each heating season:
-        Ensure the heater is in safe working order.
-        Check the operation according to the Owner’s Manual and the Commissioning Checklist.[2]
-        Have a qualified electrician test all safety devices such as circuit breakers or RCDs[3] .
-        Never immerse the cord, plug, or any heater part in water or any other liquid.
-        For heater lamp replacement or any other service enquiries, contact Heatray or a qualified electrician.
