For a recent project at the iconic Farmers Daughters in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, we were proud to set new standards of comfort.

Located within the ‘Paris End’ of Collins Street, Farmer’s Daughters comprises a restaurant, deli and rooftop bar spread across three levels. With an exceptional offering of provenance-based cuisine made from produce sourced directly from Gippsland farms, the venue’s seasonal menu serves a taste of Victoria’s regions. As a result, Farmers Daughters has become a highly sought-after destination among locals and tourists alike.

Heatray IRH-Es proved to be the perfect solution for the rooftop lounge. With highly efficient lamp and reflector technology, they deliver maximum, high-intensity warmth without the need for a ‘warm-up’ period

Patrons can also enjoy locally sourced craft beer, wines and spirits, and an inspired cocktail menu at the rooftop lounge, which features an open roof, bronze steel beams swathed in live greenery and stunning views of Melbourne’s skyline. As the bar is exposed to the elements and susceptible to Melbourne’s variable weather conditions, Heatray was called upon for our expertise in outdoor heating.

We installed the Infrared Electric Heaters (IRH-E) from our Heatray range. We suspended them from the overhead steel beams via custom dropper supports, allowing patrons to enjoy their drinks and the view comfortably.

The IRH-Es proved to be the perfect solution for the rooftop lounge. Highly efficient lamp and reflector technology deliver maximum, high-intensity warmth without needing a warm-up period. With an IP65 waterproof rating, rain shield, and highly durable, non-corrosive construction, they are also built to withstand the elements.

The heaters are also equipped with a handy remote-control function, including six heat output settings and sensor and group ‘zone’ control options. This allows the staff at Farmer’s Daughters to discreetly adjust the IRH-Es when necessary to provide targeted heating and meet customers’ needs.

“The open roof leaves the bar susceptible to Melbourne’s cold, windy weather, and the IRH-Es were selected due to the instant, high-intensity radiant heat they deliver. They are powerful but energy efficient, which is exactly what you need on a cold or wintry day,” says Keith Short, Heatray’s project manager at Farmer’s Daughters.

“Equally, the staff needed the flexibility to adjust the heat output to suit milder, less breezy occasions, which is why the six heat output settings, zone control options, and remote-control functionality of our IRH-Es were also important.”

The rooftop bar is a luxurious and sophisticated venue; therefore, it was important to install aesthetically refined equipment that would seamlessly integrate with the interior.

Beyond impressive technical capabilities, Heatray IRH-Es were chosen to complement the physical surroundings. The rooftop lounge is a luxurious and sophisticated venue. Therefore, installing aesthetically refined equipment that seamlessly integrates with the bronze steel beams and complements the bar’s elegant look was important.

The IRH-Es are slimline and compact, with a refined frost matte finish and highly resolved grille and cover plate details. Featuring the latest infrared lamp technology, they emit a pleasing, warm orange tone, offering minimal glare and a noticeable reduction in brightness without compromising performance or efficiency. While these units include standard ceiling and wall mounting options, we suspended them from above to ensure they did not detract from the space’s openness, greenery or spectacular views.
